Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a clinically proven injectable collagen stimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), designed to restore facial volume and improve skin quality by working with your body's own natural regenerative processes.

As the original FDA-approved PLLA collagen stimulator, Sculptra has over 25 years of global clinical use and a robust evidence base supporting its safety and effectiveness.

Rather than acting as a traditional dermal filler to provide immediate volume, Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production. This gradual process rebuilds the skin's underlying structural support, improving firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality while restoring lost facial volume in a subtle, natural-looking way.

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra cannot be dissolved once injected. Careful patient assessment, precise treatment planning and expert injection technique are therefore essential, making treatment by an experienced medical practitioner particularly important.

What does it treat?

Sculptra is commonly used to restore volume lost through ageing or weight loss, helping to improve facial hollowing, soften deeper lines such as the nasolabial folds, and enhance overall facial rejuvenation. By stimulating your body's own collagen production, it gradually improves skin firmness, elasticity and quality while restoring a more youthful facial structure.

In addition to facial rejuvenation, Sculptra can also be used to improve skin laxity and collagen loss in the neck and selected areas of the body, including the décolletage, upper arms, abdomen and buttocks.

Do I require a course of treatments?

Typically 2–4 treatment sessions are required spaced 6-8 weeks apart is usually recommended to achieve optimal results, although this varies depending on individual needs. Results develop progressively over 3 months as collagen regenerates.

How is Sculptra administered?

Sculptra is carefully placed beneath the skin using advanced injection techniques tailored to your individual facial anatomy. In most cases, it is administered with a blunt-tipped cannula, allowing the product to be distributed evenly while minimising trauma to the surrounding tissues.

After treatment, it is essential to massage the treated areas as instructed by your practitioner. This helps to distribute the product evenly, optimise collagen stimulation and reduce the risk of small nodules forming. We will demonstrate the correct massage technique and provide clear aftercare instructions before you leave the clinic.

Post-procedure advice

Appropriate aftercare is essential to ensure optimal results and reduce the risk of complications.

The 5-5-5 Massage Rule

One of the most important aspects of Sculptra aftercare is regular massage of the treated areas. Unless advised otherwise by your practitioner, we recommend:

  • Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes
  • 5 times per day
  • For 5 consecutive days

This helps distribute the product evenly, promotes smooth collagen stimulation and reduces the risk of small nodules forming.

Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)

  • Continue the 5-5-5 massage routine as instructed.
  • Avoid touching or applying unnecessary pressure (other than during massage).
  • Apply a cool compress if required to help reduce swelling or discomfort.
  • Avoid make-up for 12–24 hours.
  • Refrain from alcohol and excessive heat exposure
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, as this may increase swelling and bruising.

Over the Following Few Days

  • Mild swelling, tenderness, bruising and small lumps are common and usually settle within a few days.
  • Continue to protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF and avoid excessive sun exposure.
  • Contact the clinic promptly if you experience increasing pain, significant redness, warmth, discharge, or swelling that worsens rather than improves.
