Thread veins, also known as broken capillaries, red veins, or facial spider veins, are small, visible blood vessels that commonly appear on the cheeks, nose, and chin. These veins can become more noticeable over time due to ageing, sun exposure, genetics, or conditions such as rosacea.

Veinwave works by delivering ultra-high frequency microwave energy through a fine, insulated wire to the affected vein in a process known as thermo-coagulation. This precisely applied heat causes the vein to collapse and fade without damaging surrounding tissue.

The treatment is minimally invasive, highly targeted, and particularly well-suited for treating facial thread veins. Depending on the extent of the veins, a series of Veinwave treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal, results.

Before your Veinwave treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup or impurities. We kindly advise against undergoing treatment if fake tan products are present on the skin, as they can interfere with the results.

During the procedure, our experienced doctor uses a very fine, insulated needle to carefully trace the length of the visible thread veins. The treatment delivers targeted microwave energy, producing a mild pricking or tingling sensation. While most patients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, it is well tolerated and does not usually require anaesthetic.

Each session lasts up to 15 minutes, and you can return to your normal daily activities immediately following treatment. The treated area may appear slightly red and feel warm, which typically settles within a few hours.

In the days after treatment, the veins may appear the same or even darker in colour initially. The skin may feel rough and there can be tiny pinprick bruises. These are normal and temporary effects. Over time, the treated veins will fade and become significantly less visible, revealing a clearer, more even complexion.

For best results, a series of Veinwave treatments may be recommended, depending on the severity and number of veins. We advise allowing at least a 4-week interval between sessions to ensure optimal skin healing and effectiveness.
